Indian Heritage Centre

Indian Heritage Center was open this May 2015 and it is a great place to know about the Indian community in the  olden Singapore. How  they came here and  what they  did in Singapore and  how  they helped to build  Singapore into a  nation. I would recommend it to all Singapore Indians to know about their roots they can be  proud of.I came across various items used by Indians then.I was marveled.

Arshi doing Rangoli, traditional north Indian artform

with minister Easwaran

entrance of IHC looks similar to the entrance of a temple.

pillars from a house

sculptures that were used in temples and some items

the carpet hung in the display is called  "jamakaalam" and used in almost all Indian houses.they are heavy.

tools used by workers in rubber plantations back then.

Anyone still remembers the olden day studios where families got their photos taken.A booth for us to remember:

Statues from Ancient era were on display too.

Chettinad House Entrance

Thaali or mangalsutra (a symbol of  marriage)

roof looks so beautiful decorated using Tanjore painting

turbans or  head gears from different regions

ornaments

Wooden sculpture. This looks like Aravan which is  still there in Sri Mariamman temple,Chinatown.

Silver pieces from Parsi community

Nandi or the holy cow seen in the entrance of  Hindu Sivan Temples.

Meenakshi amman as Tanjore painting.
Tanjore painting is  an art for from South India and has pure gold plates as a paint in it.Original Tanjore painting is very costly and is very intricate too.

initially didn't knew how to play this.Mistook it for hoola hoop or dandiya. But later realized it was Tyre riding where in those days, children used to ride used tyres and stick on the road.

Saree-dhothi demo(traditional wear from India)
As I was touring this IHC , I came across an old uncle who told he came to Singapore during 1950s and used to stay nearby. At that time , Mustafa, the shopping paradise was just a small shop.He told that he has seen so many changes during these days and Singapore has developed a lot.

I may not have covered all the sections or  galleries of IHC in this blog, I have shared only a  few pictures with you all.

I loved visiting IHC and will visit it once again.Hope you too will visit it soon.
