Holidays Dec 2013

Kids always look forward to holidays as they can always relax. This time around, I didn't roam around much, but had relaxed time.I usually love Dec holidays, as it is season of Christmas and there are many Christmas decorations around malls in Singapore.

Many malls organize many shows for kids.

But this year around, there weren't too many kids shows or probably Arshi didn't like them saying those shows would be "babyish".This year we spent he first half of her school holidays without TV in our house. We read many books.I introduced Arshi to some good books of Roald Dahl and Kepling.I had so far never bothered to pick up a  good book for her.But after mingling with few of my  and her older friends, I got to know some good authors and gradually introduced them to Arshi.Arshi now loves reading books of Dr.Suess,Roald Dahl and others.Even I have been selective on what I read and the authors.

Apart from reading books , here libraries conduct good programs for kids too.I registered Arshi for few programs. Arshi did some good craft work there. These programs were also a  meeting point for Arshi and her school friends.Apart from reading, they did  enjoy each others company and helped choose books for each other. Our nearest Library-Tampines Regional Library(TRL) celebrated its 19 th anniversary on a  Dec weekend. They had array of activities for kids like Henna Painting, nail art, scrap booking,Warli painting,Chinese Opera Mask painting,Photo taking with the pink Dino, and what would be a birthday celebration without birthday cakes and movie screening. We spent our whole day in TRL engaging ourselves in these fun activities.

There was a  coloring contest for kids and readers can vote for their favourite art piece. This was conducted in conjunction with TRL's birthday celebrations.Arshi's finished colouring.

TRL also had Ebru Paper Marbling , an art of making colorful patterns in paper. It is an Turkish painting  form where by we don't actually paint, but have water and some oil based paints does some beautiful colourful patterns for us.Though it was meant for those above 12 years, Arshi too  loved the session. In fact she was the one who experimented many art pieces there in different shades of colours.

We also spent time watching a  small skit based on Little Red Riding Hood.Kids enjoyed the session as they had colourful props and all these props were put into action too.

Apart from the activities from library, I took Arshi to a very few shows in town. This year we saw bubble show in the newly opened Bedok Mall.Though it wasn't as fascinating as the bubble show I saw last year, Arshi had loads of fun watching it here.

I also took Arshi to meet and greet Forever friends and saw a  small live performance in Changi City Point Mall.Arshi simply loved them. Those cute Forever Friends bears-Ginger bear and honey were simply too cute.

I was also lucky enough to enjoy the performance of Colonial cousins-Hariharan .Myself and Arshi simply enjoyed the nearly 2 hour performance in Esplanade.

This holiday we as a family went to Sentosa, a  nearby small Island. But guess what, It was raining the whole day.But we still managed to get some family time strolling around Sentosa in its shuttle bus, tram and of course our much loved monorail.

Christmas season won't be complete for us without a visit to Orchard road.It is one of the visit much awaited by myself and Arshi. This year around, we visited Orchard road during Christmas eve.It was too crowed, but we were soaked in festive lights.I loved the decos in Orchard Central and it really had loads of photo opportunities for all.Arshi wanted to pose for all...

We went around Orchard road and enjoyed this year's night light up in the streets, a  combination of white and purple, which looked like some sparkling diamonds and gem stones.

The entrance of many malls were decorated very nicely and each had an unique Christmas tree for us to enjoy and pose.

There were Christmas decorations not only in Orchard road, but in various malls around Singapore too.

In between we as a  family also went to Bedok Forest Adventure where Arshi and my hubby completed the forest adventure. It was  a very nice   experience.

Thumbs up!

We also went on to see TV50 exhibit in National Museum of Singapore(NMS).The exhibit was really interesting an d we were eager to see the olden day TV sets and how  TV industry evolved in Singapore right from Community TV in CCs   to individual TV sets in our house.

This was how common TV was used in a  community in those days.

We also saw some art installations which were part of Singapore Biennial Festival outside NMS.They were just too cute and I had  a thought that I had escaped into some KAMPUNG/VILLAGE.

We also saw the art installation at NLB building too which had art work made from plastic bottles.

This year for the first time we went to Marina Bay to welcome the new year.I have always longed to be in Marina Bay to see the fireworks, but my hubby always insisted that we stay in home as it will be too crowded, and Arshi was also small then.Every year Wishing spheres are being floated along the Bay with wishes from different walks of people. We too wrote our wishes.

All these balls were later floated at the eve of the Countdown in Marina Bay.

This year we had a  chance to watch Celebrate TV50 in the Float,Marina Bay.We saw many Mediacorp artiste and also saw the most famous boys band group "The Wanted" there. So this year, we went to Marina Bay and I should say, it was a different experience for us to witness the beginning of the new year midst thousands of others surrounded by beautiful fireworks.

I loved the lighting and the beautiful balls being floated in Marina Bay.
